KATHMANDU: Nepal24hours.com Bureau Chief Sisriksha Dhakal have been detained in Kathmandu Nepal Armed Police Force. Reporters Club President Rishi Dhamala said Dhakal was targeted for her media coverage of inside inside china democratic movement and Free Tibet Movement.
Nepal24hours.com, a US based online News Service, this week accused the Nepal government of trying to silence and intimidate its journalists, following reports that security forces had detained Ms. Sisriksha Dhakal several times.
According to Nepal24hours.com, the Nepal Armed Police Force campaign against the media and its staff for the coverage of inside China democratic movement and free Tibet movement in Nepal Armed Police Force crackdown against the ethnic Tibetan people in the Tibet region near Nepal borader.
“Harassment is nothing new for Nepal24hours.com’s journalist Sisriksha Dhakal, especially among our staff with family in Nepal,” the Senior Journalist in Kathmandu, Leela Raj Khatiwada, told the Media. However, the latest detentions appeared to be far more extensive than previous ones, Khatiwada added.
E Kumar Shrestha, who has worked with Nepal24hours.com in Kathamandu and Los Angeles as web editor, said that around 6 journalist had been seized by Nepal Armed Police Force and Central Bureau of Investigation, (CIB) under Nepal home ministry.
Rights group Human Rights & Environment Protection Nepal, (HUREP NEPAl), issued an urgent call of action on Monday, saying Ms. Sisriksha Dhakal were at risk of torture.
